











In 1985, the town of Riverside, Iowa passed a motion declaring itself the “future birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk”, one of Star Trek’s foremost protagonists. This decision may have cemented Riverside’s place in a major franchise, but more importantly it has given the town a special reason to gather and celebrate its past (and future) for 39 years: Trekfest. Each June the festival brings a great migration of Star Trek fans from across the country. The result is a colorful collision of culture both from rural America and from far beyond the stars.
